The property is situated to the north of the city centre, just to the west of the Forth and Clyde Speirs Wharf canal basin. Existing local amenities include shops, cafes, and a health centre, whilst leisure facilities such as the North Woodside Leisure Centre and Pinkston Watersports Complex, are both nearby. From St Georges Cross, head broadly north on St Georges Road, going straight ahead at its junction with North Woodside Road and Braid Street. The property comprises a broadly rectangular site of just over 1 acre, bounded on its eastern flank by the Forth and Clyde Canal, directly opposite Speirs Wharf. The site had full planning permission for a prestigious and substantial development of student accommodation and ancillary facilities. In June 2013 Glasgow City Council granted consent for the erection of student accommodation with retail, café, and pastoral spaces, artists’ studios, and a gym for student use – Planning Reference – 13/00069/DC. The consent provided for 243 student rooms in a combination of “cluster and studio formats” arranged over a total of eleven floors. This consent has now lapsed, however seriously interested parties may wish to request the package of technical information which includes site investigation reports, topographical plans etc, which are available for the joint auctioneers.
