The asset is located near Girlsta, a small settlement on Mainland Shetland lying some 9.5 miles north west of Lerwick. The surrounding area is popular for walking, cycling, fishing, sailing and wildlife watching. Nearby is Girlsta Loch, which is said to be named after Geirhild, the daughter of a 9th Century Viking explorer who died when she fell through the ice whilst overwintering in Shetland. The site comprises a rectangular shaped area located in a rural setting which contains a redundant covered tank and associated infrastructure. It lies approx. 10m south of the public road and is slightly elevated, enjoying open views to the west and east. Extending to 5m x 3.2m the tank is part bunded and is raised above ground level with a number of access hatches and an electrical cabinet. It lies within a site extending to 12m x 10m which is bounded by post and wire fencing. There is a small concrete base with a marker and a valve cover located some 10m outwith the fenced area. The surrounding land is down to grazing. The total area included within the title extends to 0.046ac. (0.019ha.).
