 £3.27 million raised over 5 live-streamed auctions

SVA Property Auction, Scotland’s independent property auction company, has completed its fifth live-streamed auction, and the final auction of the 2021 programme, with a flourish. Out of a catalogue of 12 diverse lots, the virtual room achieved 100% sales for both Perth and Kinross Council and for Scottish Water and continued its run of clean sweeps with a fourth consecutive 100% sell out.

Says Shaun Vigers, SVA director and auctioneer: “The results over the last few auctions are a ringing endorsement of the live-streamed format, which for many of our vendors and buyers, has been convenient and cost effective. We’ve been very encouraged by the level of engagement and we are seeing more and more people registering to bid with every auction. I have had positive feedback that the approach we have taken of presenting the lots and bringing the hammer down in real time, helps create a sense of occasion and the buzz of a real room.”

The auction saw over 40 people fully registered in advance to bid, with additional proxy bidders involved and, for those who preferred not to engage with the streaming technology, there was still the opportunity to make telephone bids.

For an auction that generated considerable interest and very competitive bidding, there were many success stories but perhaps one of the highlights was the sale of the former school and hall on Newton and Pitcairn Road in the attractive village of Dunning in Perthshire. Pitched at a guide price of £125,000 the Category C listed, traditional cottage-style school house and hall eventually sold to a local buyer for over double that amount with a final hammer price of £277,000.

Another Perthshire property at Kenmore Street in Aberfeldy also sold to a local buyer after lengthy bidding. The vacant shop premises with a footprint of 48 sq m, was positioned as an ideal opportunity for a startup or small business and attracted a great deal of interest. It was ultimately secured for £43,500, a substantial hike from the guide price of £10,000.

The next live-streamed auction will take place on February 23rd, 2022 with further details to follow.
